Holiday Nutrition Tips?
Hi everyone I’m new here 😊
With the holidays coming up, I’m feeling a mix of excitement… and a little nervousness. I’m trying to stay mindful of my nutrition… especially keeping my protein and fibre up and being intentional with alcohol… but there are so many gatherings this time of year!
For those of you who’ve been through this before, what’s helped you stay on track without feeling restricted or deprived? I’d love to hear what’s worked for you and learn from this group!

Hi Amanda, I always try to go for things like charcuterie boards, when I am at gatherings. Still feel like I am a part of the group and snacking but usually can find the better choices here (fruit, veggies, nuts, meats etc). I also find that if there is something I really want (because there are so many cookie platters at work right now) I have a nibble and that usually satisfies me. I think when we tell ourselves we cant have it we want it more, often leading to having a bigger portion or way over indulging. When it comes to meals at gatherings, its so easy to overload my plate, so I always try take more protein and a little bit of the rest, telling myself I will come back for more when I am finished what's on my plate. I am usually so full after eating the protein and a taste of the other things that I dont go back and feel much better about my choices (win, win). I dont drink so alcohol isn't a problem, but I do like to have fancy non- alcoholic drinks now when I am out with friends. ( I always go for low sugar) There's lots of choices and if you are a wine drinker you can make it a spritzer with club soda, add diet pop to hard liquor, low cal beer and and lots of low sugar seltzers, maybe have a water on the side so you only feel like sipping the alcohol and use the water for thirst. It's not always easy but dont beat yourself up, if you eat/drink more than you should have, so be it, just move on and back on track the next day. (you dont have to stop all the good because of one bad moment).

Thank you so much for this RCT!There’s so much wisdom in what you shared. I like your perspective on allowing yourself tastes of the things you enjoy instead of putting foods off limits.I also really like the strategy of focusing on adding more protein to a plate first. This is something I can realistically see myself trying… and if I’m being honest, is different from how I’ve historically filled my plate at past gatherings lolThe charcuterie grazing idea is great too - those boards seem to be everywhere now… and you’re right that there are often some really balanced choices to choose from! This was so helpful! Thank you again for your kindness and encouragement 😊1

These are great suggestions RCT
Amanda alcohol hasn’t been agreeing with me either, so I’ve been exploring mocktails lately.
This year, I started bringing all the fixings for festive mocktails to holiday get-togethers and they’ve been a hit - especially with fellow midlife ladies and friends looking for a fun, non-alcoholic (but still festive) option!
Sharing a link to the Rosemary Pom Spritzer (aka The Merry Mocktail)
